I listen to a stream of cars as I walk in our city.
Our city is covered and defined by roads. They inform
where you are and tell you were to go. Landmarks
A useless appendage of the roads are the
footpaths.
The road I am following encounters another road. At an
intersection. I leave the footpath and cross the road.
A car speeds through the intersection, crossing the
road I am crossing, and barely avoids me. I swear at the car which has just
broken the road laws.
I continue crossing the road and continue walking. I
notice the car which has just narrowly avoided me has stopped.
When I pass the stationary car, a lady leans her head
out the window. I see withering contempt for the trash of our society. An old
white man, walking. She says: Come here.
I acquiesce. She says: My daughter heard what you
said. Now apologise to her. She needs to know you have behaved badly. Not to
copy you. Now apologise.
I said: Sorry and walked away.
